Princess Leonor
No summer vacation? “Your commitment as an heiress comes first”
While her parents will soon be heading off on holiday, Princess Leonor has a tight schedule ahead of her in the coming months. Sources close to the Spanish heir to the throne know how challenging this summer will be for her.
Princess Leonor plans vacation with friends: “Has to balance her calendar well”
Traditionally, the Spanish royal family goes on their summer vacation in August every year, and Felipe, Letizia and Co. will forego official appointments until September. Before that, however, Leonor in particular has a summer full of commitments ahead of her. Planning a vacation with friends is a dilemma for the 18-year-old: she has to juggle her duties as heir to the throne and her private life at the same time.
Anonymous insiders close to Leonor assure: “For the Princess of Asturias, her commitment as heiress is the top priority.” And further: “This does not mean that the heiress will not spend a few days with friends, but she will have to balance her calendar very well, as it is quite full.” The Spanish TV show “Fiesta” is certain that the 18-year-old is organizing a private vacation with friends she met during her time in the military.
Many dates, one premiere
However, she does not have much time for this: After being appointed cadet cadet, Princess Leonor will travel to Catalonia on July 9th together with her sister Princess Sofia, 17. There, the duo will take part in several events organized as part of the Princess of Girona Prize. Last year, Leonor and Sofia visited a museum, “this year something is planned near Barcelona,” according to Vanitatis.
On July 10, the two sisters will receive support from their parents to attend a few appointments in Lloret de Mar before Princess Leonor travels to Galicia with the royal couple on July 16. There, the heir to the throne will “come into contact with the naval school” for the first time.
A summer full of sporting events awaits Leonor, Letizia and Felipe
In addition, it is possible that Leonor could accompany her parents to the Spanish team’s European Championship games. The European Football Championship runs until July 14. Whether the princess takes part in one of the games – like Felipe recently did in Frankfurt – depends on how the Spanish team performs. According to “Vanitatis”, Leonor has exactly one free week left, which she can use to go on vacation with her military friends: from July 22nd she can treat herself to a short break. After that, there are likely to be appearances at the Olympic Games, for which the royal family plans to travel to Paris. The sporting event will open on July 26th, and there are no further details about the Spanish royals’ plans yet.
When the summer is over, things will get exciting for Leonor: As the Spanish website reports, she will travel to the Escuela Naval de Marín at the end of August, where she will be trained for the navy. In January 2025, the heir to the throne will be ready to board the ship Juan Sebastián de Elcano – and sail around the world.
