The Princess of Asturias Awards mark important dates in Princess Leonor’s calendar, as she, as heir to the throne, puts her name to this award. For this task, she is allowed to interrupt her military training to take part in the award ceremony – in civilian clothes.

Behind Princess Leonor, 17, has exciting weeks ahead. On August 17, the eldest daughter of King Felipe, 55, and Queen Letizia, 51, started her training as a cadet at the Military Academy in Zaragoza. She follows her father’s example and joins a new class of students who will be future officers of the Army, the Civil Guard and the Joint Corps of the Armed Forces. The big appearance at the Spanish national holiday on October 12th: Princess Leonor appears in uniform at a public event. This look will accompany her next year, but she was now allowed to make an exception for the Asturias Awards.
