Princess Madeleine + Chris O’Neill: Move to Sweden failed again?

After Princess Madeleine and Chris O’Neill’s villa in Florida was already for sale in spring 2023, the couple is now making another attempt to put their home under the hammer. It is said that the family really wants to move to Sweden.

The youngest daughter of Queen Silvia, 79, and King Carl Gustav, 77, emigrated to sunny Florida in 2019 with her husband Chris O’Neill, 49, and their three children. The businessman in particular was never able to gain much from the media hype surrounding the royals and enjoyed life away from the spotlight. However, Princess Madeleine, 41, seems to miss her home. She wants to go back to Sweden. Can the couple now come to an agreement?

Princess Madeleine and Chris O’Neill: Are they finally turning their backs on Florida?

The Royals’ plan to move back to Sweden has been clear for some time. Princess Madeleine in particular seems to miss her family in Sweden and wants to move back to her home country. As early as spring 2023, the couple communicated that they wanted to leave palm trees and wide sandy beaches behind and were looking forward to moving into the renovated apartment in Hovstallet, Stockholm. Their luxurious estate in Pinecrest, the most exclusive part of Florida, was subsequently listed on March 3, 2023, but never sold.

It’s rumored that Madeleine and Chris O’Neill were having trouble selling their home for the listed price. In connection with the announcement of the move, the villa was put up for sale for a whopping SEK 83 million (almost 7 million euros). In fact, the royal couple bought the property in 2019 for just SEK 53 million (€4.5 million) – a considerable increase. Although the 600 square meter villa has seven bedrooms and eight bathrooms, all of which were renovated before moving in, the price is still hefty.

The luxury villa is for sale again

After the first attempt to sell failed, the couple made a second one a short time later – reducing the price of the house by SEK 355,000. The property was listed for SEK 79.2 million (€6.8 million) on real estate website Zillow before the listing was removed again. Photos of the exclusive villa with pool “Aftonbladet” is available. According to speculation, Chris and Madeleine had problems selling the house at the price they wanted and were unwilling to seriously negotiate.

When asked by “Svensk Damtidning” it only said: “Since the residence of Princess Madeleine and Mr. Christopher O’Neill in Florida is private, we do not comment on it.” A little later, the court announced that the move was now on hold and that the family would not move to Sweden until 2024 at the earliest. However, Margareta Thorgren, the court’s information manager, refuted the suggestion that the failed house sale would have prevented the move. “It’s just that the time for the family was a little too short with everything that a move entails,” she told “Express”. It is nevertheless assumed that Chris O’Neill will find it convenient to delay the move a little longer, as he is rather skeptical about the change of residence.
