Princess Madeleine is moving back to Sweden with her family. She and husband Chris O’Neill are said to have already shortlisted two schools for their three children to attend in Stockholm from August 2023.

Princess Madeleine, 40, and Chris O’Neill, 48, emigrated to the US state of Florida in 2018. There the couple built a new life with their three children, Princess Leonore, 9, Prince Nicolas, 7, and Princess Adrienne, 4. So there was a big surprise when the royal court announced on March 7, 2023 that the family of five would return to Sweden this summer. A completely new school day begins for the royal kids. “Svensk Damtidning” now wants to know in which educational institutions they could do this.

Princess Madeleine wants her children to have a “Swedish upbringing”.

“Her Royal Highness Princess Madeleine and Mr Christopher O’Neill and his family will be moving back to Stockholm in August 2023. […] Princess Leonore and Prince Nicolas will start school in Stockholm in the autumn. Princess Adrienne will attend pre-school,” the official palace statement said. Margareta Thorgren, head of information at the court, also told Aftonbladet newspaper that the reason for the couple’s decision was that Madeleine and Chris gave their children a “Swedish education”. You could now have the following schools in mind for this.

Madeleine’s kids go to her old school?

According to “Svensk Damtidning”, the private school Carlssons Skola in the Östermalm district of Stockholm is at the top of Madeleine’s and Christopher’s list. Firstly because it is close to the royal stables where the family will live. On the other hand, both Madeleine and her siblings Princess Victoria, 45, and Prince Carl Philip, 43, visited this facility. In addition, the children of Madeleine’s friends would also attend school.

“Teaching at Carlssons Skola is built on a solid foundation. […] Our pedagogy is based on a holistic approach that includes theoretical as well as practical and creative activities. We focus on each individual student and help them find their personal learning strategies,” the school’s website reads.

Nicolas and Leonore could go to school with Princess Victoria’s children

Another option would be Campus Manilla. The school, which is located in the Djurgården district, is also attended by Victoria’s children Princess Estelle, 11, and Prince Oscar, 7. This school is popular with many upper-class parents in Sweden. However, the elementary school with attached high school has strictly limited capacity. Only 48 children are admitted to first grade each year. According to the website, siblings have priority. The school also offers many extracurricular activities such as dancing, football, judo and rowing. School lunches are prepared by a dedicated chef and the school has an international dimension – which would suit Princess Madeleine and Chris O’Neill.

However, the court does not want to reveal which school or preschool Leonore, Nicolas and Adrienne will attend. “We’ve looked at what we’ve done in the past, whether we’ve communicated the education of the royal children, and we usually haven’t, out of respect for the children and so that they have a reasonably normal education,” explains Margareta Thorgren opposite “Svensk Damtidning”.
