In October 2018, the court made Princess Mette-Marit’s chronic lung disease public. Since then, short-term appointment cancellations have been accompanied by concerns about her health. The question now arises again: Why did Prince Haakon’s wife go into hiding?

On January 25, 2023, two planned February appointments for Princess Mette-Marit, 49, disappeared from the royal family’s official calendar. At first glance, this is nothing unusual. Due to her chronic lung disease, Prince Haakon’s wife, 49, has repeatedly had to cancel appearances at short notice or break off prematurely in recent years to rest.

The strange thing is that Mette-Marit’s appointments in February were canceled two weeks in advance. The answer to a request from the court was vague: “From time to time there are changes in the Royal calendar – so this time,” said deputy head of communications Sven Gjeruldsen when asked by “Dana Press”. Now the question arises: Where is the Crown Princess of Norway?

Princess Mette-Marit does not show up at Prince Haakon’s side for weeks

Princess Mette-Marit has only appeared in public once this year: at the funeral of ex-King Constantine of Greece, † 82. The court announced on January 23 that the crown prince couple would make up for their state visit to Great Britain from March 1 to 2 – the actual date in September 2022 had to be canceled due to Queen Elizbeth’s death, † 96.

But until then, Royal fans will have to be patient. Because the royal program still does not provide a date for Mette-Marit up to and including February 17th. This includes, among other things, a dinner at which King Harald, 85, Queen Sonja, 85, and Crown Prince Haakon received Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda, 58, and First Lady Diana Nausėdienė, 58, on February 13.

See you again in March?

All hope of seeing the Crown Princess again now rests on two major events announced: Firstly, the official state visit to London, and secondly, five trips from February up to and including June to celebrate the 50th birthday of the Crown Prince couple. However, Haakon starts alone. He is traveling to Stord – a municipality in Norway’s Fylke Vestland – on February 8th to visit one of Norway’s largest and oldest shipyards.

A joint excursion for the crown prince couple is planned for March, April, May and June, and the celebrations on August 25 – the 22nd wedding anniversary of Princess Mette-Marit and Prince Haakon – will be rounded off with a “backyard party” on the Osloer Lock.
