Princess Mette-Marit, 50, has an exciting first planned: As the official calendar, which can be viewed on the royal family’s website, reveals, the Norwegian Crown Princess and her husband Crown Prince Haakon, 50, are inviting people to the annual football friendly match – and none other than Princess Mette-Marit herself is the coach of one of the two teams that will compete against each other.

The game will take place on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at 4 p.m. on the gravel pitch at Skaugum Manor, the home of the Norwegian royals. Team Skaugum will face the Røa Unified team. The latter is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year and has even represented Norway at the Paralympics. For the game in Skaugum, Røa Unified will field the newly founded Unified Kids team with players aged six to 14, the statement on the palace website announced. Regarding Team Skaugum, which includes members of the Crown Prince’s family, it says: “This year’s coach of Team Skaugum is Crown Princess Mette-Marit.”

The friendly match, which consists of two halves of 15 minutes each and is being played for the ninth time this year, is a collaboration between the Crown Prince family around Mette-Marit, Haakon and the children Princess Ingrid Alexandra, 20, Prince Sverre Magnus, 18, and Marius Borg Høiby, 27, and the Norwegian Football Association. For Princess Mette-Marit, this time as coach, it is likely to be a particularly exciting match.
