At a distance from their fans? The court’s answer is puzzling

Princess Mette-Marit, 50, shared private photos, insights into her work as Crown Princess and congratulations to Norwegian athletes who won major prizes on her personal Instagram account. But that’s over now: Although the Norwegian royal’s last post was several years ago, Mette-Marit is now further clearing up her public appearance – and making it private.

Statement from the court raises even more questions

As the Norwegian “Se og Hør” noted on June 7, 2024, the account of Prince Haakon’s wife, 50, is no longer accessible to every user: Mette-Marit’s profile was publicly visible for years, but she has now decided to set her account to “private”. This means that only her approximately 279,000 followers have access to her feed and the recordings stored there. All other fans must first request a “follow” and are content with a simple look at her profile picture and the data stored there. In addition to the short form of her official royal title – “HKH Mette-Marit” – and the link to the website of the Norwegian royal family, the 50-year-old only reveals one private detail there: “Bokorm” is written in her biography, behind which is a red heart and a small flag of her home country. Translated, the word means something like bookworm or bookworm.

As “Se og Hør” further noted, Mette-Marit not only restricted the view of her profile, but also the comment section under her posts. Fans are now no longer able to leave new messages under the Crown Princess’s posts. In addition, Mette-Marit is said to have deleted some of her photos from her feed. However, the Norwegian publication does not say which pictures exactly these were.

When asked by GALA, the Norwegian palace remained reserved. They simply explained: “This Instagram profile has been inactive since 2021. Today, the posts of all members of the royal family are collected under @detnorskekongehus.” Details, such as when Mette-Marit’s account was made private or what the background to this decision was, remain unanswered even after a further request.

Princess Mette-Marit has been on Instagram since 2014

When it comes to the Instagram platform, the Norwegian Crown Princess was quite early on: she opened her account in March 2014 and the account was verified around two years later, in September 2016. The Norwegian royal family’s Instagram profile, on the other hand, only went online in August 2016.
