It’s been 20 years since Linda Tånevik accompanied her long-time friend Princess Mette-Marit as a bridesmaid in front of the altar. However, the dream wedding with Prince Haakon plunged her into a deep crisis.

On August 25, 2001 the time had come: Mette-Marit Tjessem Höiby, 48, who was then bourgeois, became a princess. Before and during the wonderful wedding ceremony, one of them did not leave her side: her long-time friend Linda Tånevik.

But the event left its mark. Because as the Norwegian tabloid “Se og Hör” reports, Mette-Marit’s marriage to Prince Haakon of Norway, 48, caused her a life crisis.

Princess Mette-Marit: Your bridesmaid suffered a life crisis due to her wedding

Four years ago, Linda Tånevik spoke for the first time about a moment in her life that would change everything. It happened on “the day after Håkon and Mette-Marit married in 2001”, Linda explained in an interview with the daily newspaper “Dagbladet”. She was one of the best man. Mette-Marit met the former hairdresser “through mutual friends,” says Tånevik. “As Marius [Mette-Marits Sohn aus erster Ehe] was still small, “she spent a lot of time with the then still bourgeoisie.

Linda has only fond memories of the big day itself: “The wedding was fantastic, such an impressive experience.”

But then came the day after the party and everything was different: “When I woke up the next day, I just felt small and empty. I thought that Mette-Marit was so lucky that she had the opportunity to see others help and make a difference. But who was I really? What was the point of what I was doing? “recalls the long-time friend, who up to this point worked as a hairdresser in one of the most popular salons in Oslo.

Mette-Marit’s friend Linda turned her life inside out

This sudden crisis of meaning and life led Linda to turn her life upside down. She started studying acupuncture and continued to work part-time. Tånevik got a little closer to her feeling of wanting to do something useful. But that wasn’t enough for her.

Mette-Marit’s girlfriend decided to become a doctor. But she didn’t “just” want to stay in a Norwegian hospital. A trip to Mozambique in Africa should open her eyes. Linda told that in 2014 to the newspaper “Dagen”. She was so overwhelmed by the impressions and wondered where she could help herself.

In 2016, the former bridesmaid finally packed her bags and went to Mozambique to work as a doctor and to campaign for HIV and AIDS education. “That has since become my ‘passion’, if you want to put it that way. My job is to do preventive work and train others,” explains Linda to “Dagbladet”.

And this shows that Mette-Marit and Linda have indeed both taken the same social path. Mette-Maris also stood up for the fight against HIV and AIDS as one of her first royal tasks.
