The coming year promises big changes, especially for a member of the Spanish royal family. Princess Sofia then has to make some important decisions about her future.

2023 will be a crucial year for Princess Sofia of Spain, 15, after all she will soon have to choose which path to take. Will she follow in the footsteps of her older sister Princess Leonor, 17, or would she rather go her own way?

All doors are open to Princess Sofia

While the daughter of King Felipe, 54, and Queen Letizia, 50, has kept a low profile in 2022, people will certainly be keeping more eyes on her in the coming year. Because before the summer, Sofia will say goodbye to compulsory secondary school. A drastic step that will not be easy for her, since she spent her entire school days at the Santa Maria de los Rosales school in Madrid.

But now it’s time for the young royal to think about the future. All doors are open to her. For example, she could go to a secondary school in Spain to get her Abitur. But training abroad would also be an option. Sister Leonor is already doing it. She is currently studying at UWC Atlantic College in Wales and will be graduating from high school in May.

Does Sofia go abroad like Sister Leonor?

As the Spanish newspaper “El Español” claims to have learned, the granddaughter of ex-King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofía, both 84, seems to be interested in the same education that her older sister is enjoying. “It’s very clear to her. From what her sister tells her, she really wants to go to Wales too, but people think it’s easy. However, the entrance exams and GPA requirements are very complicated,” says an insider to the publication. If she decides to go this route, she must start preparing now in order to take part in the exams in February 2023.

It remains to be seen whether Felipe and Letizia will soon have to say goodbye to their youngest. However, as Lecturas writes, one thing is certain: Sofia will leave the school she has been attending since she was three years old. With the separation from her classmates, a new chapter begins for her.
