Princess Sofia upset her sister-in-law Victoria

Princess Victoria and Princess Sofia have become close confidants in recent years. But there was also a time when the two women were anything but green…

In June 2014, the Swedish royal family officially announced the engagement of Prince Carl Philip, 44, and Sofia Hellqvist, 39, and a year later they were married in the Stockholm Palace Church. But before they could get married, today’s Princess Sofia had to prove herself to her new family members – especially Crown Princess Victoria, 46.

Princess Victoria ‘could have been irritable towards Sofia Hellqvist’

As Johan T. Lindwall, 52, nobility expert and editor-in-chief of the Swedish newspaper “Svensk Damtidning”, reports in his 2012 book “Madeleine – prinsessan private”, several members of the royal family were anything but well disposed towards Sofia. “At the same time, I learned that Crown Princess Victoria could also be irritable towards Sofia Hellqvist. Even the Crown Princess sometimes had difficulties with Carl Philip’s girlfriend. It sounded very strange, but when I heard the reason for it, I realized that it was true. “Victoria felt that Sofia Hellqvist was far too dominant and controlling towards Carl Philip and couldn’t stand the way Sofia Hellqvist pushed Carl Philip around. He had absolutely nothing to say and that bothered Victoria,” writes Lindwall.

Princess Sofia caused discussions

It goes on to say that Princess Victoria is known as a “very protective person” and it was this very trait that led her to always side with Carl Philips in discussions with Sofia. “Carl Philip was the weakest of the siblings, and Victoria had repeatedly had to look after him and stand up for him over the years. The fact that his girlfriend was now taking advantage of his kindness upset even Victoria. She spoke to him several times Carl Philip about it, and he was well aware of his big sister’s attitude. However, Carl Philip couldn’t understand what was wrong with the criticism. He didn’t think Sofia Hellqvist was pushing him around. In his world, they were both equally in charge. But he was relatively alone with this opinion,” continued Johan T. Lindwall.

Over the years, however, the relationship between women has improved more and more; today Princess Sofia is one of Princess Victoria’s most important confidantes and is an important pillar in the royal family.
