Princess Victoria + Daniel: Ockelbo shooting – were they in danger?

In Prince Daniel’s hometown of Ockelbo, a man was shot on the street at the weekend, the perpetrator is still on the run. The crown prince couple is said to have been there as well. Now the court is speaking out.

This message will have hit Prince Daniel, 48, hard: On Sunday, August 7, 2022, a man was shot in Ockelbo in the Swedish province of Gävleborgs län, the city where he grew up and spent his childhood. The perpetrator has since been sought by the police with a large contingent.

According to the Swedish tabloid “Hänt”, Daniel and Princess Victoria, 45, are said to have been on site during the incident. The palace has now responded to the allegation.

Police use helicopters to search for the perpetrator

As the Swedish newspaper “Aftonbladet” reports, a man in his 30s was shot while leaving a local pizzeria on Sunday afternoon. The person was taken to a clinic by ambulance and the injuries are said to be non-life-threatening, according to Swedish media. A large-scale police operation with several patrols, a police helicopter and dogs has been looking for the perpetrator ever since. A preliminary investigation into attempted murder was also initiated.

Prince Daniel’s parents live in Ockelbo to this day

According to police chief Mikael Lindgren, there should be no danger to the public. Concerns about Daniel’s parents Olle and Ewa Westling, who still live in the tranquil town of around 6000 inhabitants (as of the end of March 2022), will only completely disappear when the perpetrator has been caught.

Palace comments on the stay of the crown prince couple

Did Royal fans also have to fear for the safety of Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel? Because, as “Hänt” claims, according to information circulating on social media, the crown prince couple happened to be in Ockelbo at the time of the shooting. There is no confirmation from the palace. The head of information at the farm, Margareta Thorgren, only reveals this much to the publication: “Everyone is doing well.”

In hardly any other country in Europe are so many people killed with firearms as in Sweden, reports “Deutschlandfunk”. This is said to be mainly due to enemy gangs who keep fighting each other. Up to mid-June 2022 alone, at least one person was shot dead in Sweden every week, more than in the same period of the previous year.
