Princess Victoria + King Carl Gustaf have to interrupt their vacation

King Carl Gustaf and Princess Victoria are currently vacationing with their family on Öland – but now father and daughter have to interrupt their summer vacation at short notice: They are needed in Stockholm.

Only a few days ago, Sweden’s Prime Minister Stefan Löfven, 63, was overthrown by a vote of no confidence, now the parliament has re-elected him on Wednesday (July 7th, 2021). Less than half of the representatives in the Stockholm Reichstag voted for him: 116 voted for him, 60 abstained, 173 spoke out against him. Nevertheless, he remains in office.

King Carl Gustaf and Princess Victoria are expected in Stockholm

After this decision, a conselj is absolutely necessary, which is held with the king after every government is formed – this time with the “old” and “new” Prime Minister Löfven, who introduces his ministers. The “Skiftekonselj”, the meeting on the occasion of the re-election, is now to take place on Friday (July 9th 2021) in the Royal Palace in Stockholm. At this meeting, the President of Parliament will officially inform the King and his daughter about the formation of the government. An important appointment that the heir to the throne, Princess Victoria, 43, and King Carl Gustaf, 75, cannot cancel despite their vacation.

Mainly because the lost vote of no confidence – triggered by a dispute over fixed rental prices for new buildings – has plunged the Swedish government into a deep crisis, Löfven’s red-green minority government has given up in the past few days and lost many of its previous supporters.

On Friday, King Carl Gustaf and Crown Princess Victoria are expected in Stockholm, but they are not traveling together: for security reasons. The illu “Svensk Damtidning” suspects that the king takes the scheduled flight from Kalmar airfield, while Victoria is picked up by one of the state planes. After the political appointment, the two royals should continue their well-deserved vacation on Öland.
