She keeps looking at him, smiling at him, lovingly, but also a little conspiratorially. Yes, they are a team, Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden, 46, and her husband Prince Daniel, 50. They showed that again last weekend with their glamorous appearance at the Nobel Prize ceremony in Stockholm.

Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel: They are very close when it comes to the Nobel Prize

A highly official appointment in the concert hall, and yet the couple always took the liberty of small touches and tender gestures. Pure harmony, like a week before during the state visit to London. Anyone who observes the two in their harmony easily forgets that they also had to endure completely different times.

They have overcome difficult times

Crisis! Affair! Divorce! Two years ago there was hardly any other topic in the headlines in the Swedish media than the prince’s alleged affair. Other royals could now take an example from how Victoria and Daniel overcame the difficult time. Because while the Swedes are now traveling relaxed through Europe again or representing the crown at home, there is a thick atmosphere in other royal families across the countries.

Crises are also a big issue in other countries

Whether Denmark or England – there is no trace of Christmas peace. Instead: a mood of crisis everywhere. Princess Mary, 51, is traveling to Australia and is trying to escape the cheating rumors surrounding her husband Prince Frederik, 55, and Mexican actress Genoveva Casanova, 47. And Prince William, 41, and his wife Princess Kate, 41, not only suffer from the constant indiscretions of Prince Harry, 39, and Duchess Meghan, 42, but also from the gossip addiction of Omid Scobie, who is currently almost fueled forgotten speculation about an affair between William and Rose Hanbury.

A brave step

There’s a lot going on with the monarchs of tomorrow. But how do you deal with this mood of crisis? Daniel and Victoria have a tip: escape forward. When rumors about Daniel’s alleged affair began circulating at the end of 2021, the family’s PR strategists resorted to an unusual measure and published a denial on Instagram in February 2022. “Normally we don’t comment on rumors and speculation,” wrote Victoria and Daniel there under the royal coat of arms. And further: “However, in order to protect our families, we would like to make it clear once and for all that the rumors that are now being spread are completely unfounded.” Clear words that actually put an end to the speculation. And an openness that made the crown prince couple even more approachable and gave the starting signal for transparent communication.

Finally more peace again

The future queen’s husband later spoke about this difficult phase on the occasion of his 50th birthday: “We had the feeling that we could no longer accept it.” Breaking with the iron law of the royal families to never explain oneself and never complain – “never explain, never complain”, as the British say – was as courageous as it was unconventional. Above all, the strategy brought the Swedes back the calm they longed for. The other couples are now dreaming about it too. Maybe they should try to do the same as Victoria and Daniel when it comes to crisis PR.
