Queen Margrethe of Denmark celebrates her 50th anniversary on the throne this weekend. Fewer royals are invited than initially assumed, and Princess Victoria is not on the guest list either.

In mid-September 2022 there will be a big celebration at the Danish court! Queen Margrethe, 82, invites you to a grand ceremony on Saturday and Sunday, September 10 and 11, 2022, on the occasion of her 50th anniversary of the throne. But Sweden’s heir to the throne, Princess Victoria, 45, was not invited for a reason, as the court now reveals.

Princess Victoria, Prince Carl Philip + Co. are not invited to Queen Margrethe’s jubilee

After exhibitions, a ballet performance and other events honored the Danish queen throughout the year, the festival on the second weekend in September forms the grand finale, which is even broadcast live on television.

However, those who expected many royals – especially from the younger generation – will be disappointed. King Carl Gustaf, 76, and Queen Silvia, 78, are arriving, but Victoria and husband Prince Daniel, 48, are not planned. Prince Carl Philip, 43, and Princess Sofia, 37, have not been invited either – although he is Queen Margrethe’s godchild is.

Only ‘Nordic heads of state invited’

There is a reason for this: According to court spokeswoman Margareta Thorgren, “this time” only “the Nordic heads of state were invited,” as the Swedish newspaper “Aftonbladet” reports.

In addition to the Swedish royal couple, the Norwegian royal couple is also coming to Copenhagen, but not the crown prince couple. In addition to Carl Gustaf and Silvia as well as King Harald and Queen Sonja, both 85, only members of the Danish royal family are known as guests.
