At a further education college in Würselen near Aachen, a teacher wore a shirt with a picture of Adolf Hitler in class. A student at the school then contacted the police, the Cologne district government said upon request. The school management reacted, took the teacher out of class and sent her home. “The police confiscated the shirt, a report was filed and the state security was informed,” said a spokesman for the district government.
According to the police in Aachen, several faces of dictators were depicted on the shirt. In addition to Hitler, Stalin, Mao Zedong, Idi Amin and Pol Pot were also depicted. Criminal proceedings have been initiated because of the use of symbols of unconstitutional organizations. The person had to take off his shirt on site. State security is investigating.
According to the criminal code, showing Hitler’s face is a punishable offense if he is depicted in an iconic manner or if other unconstitutional symbols are visible in the picture, such as the swastika armband or the Hitler salute.
The district government in Cologne announced that on the same day the school management issued an order to the teacher, according to which she was released from further duties with immediate effect. This means that the teacher is currently no longer teaching, is no longer allowed to enter the school until further notice and is also not allowed to have any contact with students.
According to the “Aachener Zeitung”, the teacher repeatedly attracted attention through “unacceptable statements”. On the further education college’s website he is listed as a teacher of mathematics and philosophy. In the past he has given lectures on animal ethics. On his Facebook account he uses the international language Esperanto and is critical of the EU, the Greens and gender.
