“Priscilla” tells the most personal story yet of rock star Elvis and his wife Priscilla. In the tragic film biography, her view of things is described for the first time.
The film biography “Priscilla” by star director Sofia Coppola tells the turbulent love story between Priscilla Presley and the ultimate King of Rock ‘n’ Roll Elvis. From its hesitant beginnings when the two get to know each other in Germany to the abrupt end when she files for divorce and leaves him with their daughter Lisa Marie, the plot is captivating and touching at the same time.
“Priscilla” is certainly not the first film adaptation about the life and work of the famous “King”. Of course, comparisons are often made here to Baz Luhrmann’s “Elvis” from last year, in which Austin Butler plays the lead role and Tom Hanks appears as his manager Colonel Tom Parker. This time it’s about Priscilla’s perspective and the very personal moments of her long-term romance.
Completely different and surprisingly honest
The screenplay for the film is based on the biography “Elvis and Me”, which was published by Priscilla Presley and Sandra Harmon in 1985. Director Coppola masterfully manages to conjure up the experiences described in the book on the big screen and decorate them with wonderful detailed shots, a suitable soundtrack and colorful outfits for Priscilla and Elvis alike.
The moody and sometimes short-tempered rock star is played very impressively by Jacob Elordi (“Euphoria”) in his conscious supporting role and the legendary accent is also convincing. What is particularly impressive is the simple existence of Priscilla, who is portrayed by Cailee Spaeny as a total contrast next to her well-known husband.
If you want to experience the roller coaster ride of emotions and take a close look at Graceland as Priscilla’s golden cage: “Priscilla” starts in Germany on January 4, 2024.
A fallen star and his beloved
The drama “Priscilla” describes the initially exciting love story of Priscilla and her rock star husband Elvis from her personal perspective. As she falls head over heels for him and his fame, she begins to realize that she only plays a small supporting role in his turbulent life. Viewers follow Priscilla’s journey up close and experience how the former schoolgirl develops into an independent woman and mother. Director Sofia Coppola shows once again that she can skillfully use her leading actresses and breathe personality into them. If you want to see the unattainable “King” Elvis from a very intimate perspective, you should watch the sometimes very quiet film biography “Priscilla” and let yourself be carried away by the masterful portrayal of Cailee Spaeny and Jacob Elordi.
