Prison closed for a candidate of the Princes of Love, convicted of domestic violence

Eighteen months in prison, nine of which are closed for this former candidate of the Princes of Love, in sanction of violent and intolerable behavior, all the more coming from a popular public figure among the young generation.

Alexis de Descannelle had everything the ideal son-in-law in season 8 of the Princes of Love: competing cyclist, former Mister Pays de la Loire and even author of a personal development book. Yet behind this perfect portrait, the man was sentenced to immediate appearance for domestic violence, after having hit his partner on several occasions. The police had been warned by a friend of the latter, worried about the violence inflicted by Alexis on her friend. On Friday, May 28, 2021, he was sentenced to eighteen months in prison, nine of which were closed. This is not the first time that a candidate for this show is guilty of domestic violence: Julien Guirado had been violent towards Marine El Himer, candidates for the 2019 season.

A toxic culture, which confuses violence and love

The report of the trial given by the local press leads one to wonder: how long will we still highlight toxic men as “prince of love”? The mechanics of the show showcase relational torments made up of cries and tears. But to live the passion, do you have to scream and suffer? This is enough to establish a toxic model of sentimental relationships, which easily reaches the top of the “Violent meter”, tool created in 2019 to assess a relationship. The relations within these programs go through all the phases of different violence: enormous tensions via disputes which start from minimal facts. This is followed by crises of extreme verbal violence; then justification, where the aggressor invokes love or blames his partner for his violent behavior. Finally, the last phase is that of the honeymoon: fiery declarations, apologies, gifts.

This case recalls this cycle of violence. The young woman victim of violence seems under total control. The site actu.fr thus tells of SMS exchanges. Alexis writes to his partner so that she does not file a complaint: “I know I’m not nice but please do this for me. Say I didn’t hit you”. The victim then refused to submit to the medical examination and did not sign his statement, responding to his companion: “I love you, I will do nothing to harm you”. Justice condemned the man despite this, in view of the history of numerous violence.
