Private Division announces partnership with Wētā Workshop for Lord of the Rings game

Well known for their work on The Lord of the Rings film trilogy, Wētā Workshop began setting up their own video game development team from 2014 and are working on a new title based on Middle-earth, this with the consent of Middle-earth Enterprises which transmitted to him the rights of the novels of JRR Tolkien and especially the freedom to extrapolate around these accounts.

We are thrilled to partner with Wētā Workshop to publish a game set in such an extraordinary and celebrated universe. The Lord of the Rings IP is home to so many remarkable stories, and no entity is better equipped than the team at Wētā Workshop to create a distinctive new Middle-earth gaming experience.“, comments Michael Worosz, Head of Private Division.

It’s a privilege to create a new game set in Middle-earth, especially so different from what fans have played before. As fans ourselves, we’re excited that players can explore Middle-earth like never before, and introduce new fans to the magic of The Lord of the Rings.“, adds Amie Wolken, Head of Interactive at Wētā Workshop.

Comments which make it possible to occupy space in a very empty press release since no details are announced on this title, except that it is still at the beginning of its development and that it should not not see the light of day before Take-Two’s fiscal year ends in March 2024. For Private Division, this project is in addition to the games already in preparation at Piccolo (Arise: A Simple Story), Die Gute Fabrik (Mutazione) and Moon Studios (ori). The label also covers the first titles from young studios Yellow Brick Games and Evening Star.
