Pro-Russian hackers launch cyberattack against Deezer

Anonymous Sudan, a pro-Russian hacktivist group claiming to be Islamist, has paralyzed the music streaming platform Deezer. These cyberattacks are first and foremost a way of maintaining anxiety.

The music streaming platform Deezer experienced some disruptions on October 22, preventing many users from enjoying the app. On X (formerly Twitter), subscribers have reported to Deezer that they have no longer had access to the service for almost 24 hours. The company communicated this morning, indicating that it suffered a denial of service attack, also called DDoS.

This strategy consists of launching waves of connection directed simultaneously towards a specific site. If the number of requests is high enough, the server is no longer able to process them, and the targeted platform shuts down, most often for a few hours. First of all, it is a low-cost harassment technique for hackers. These attacks are most often very symbolic.

Early in the morning, the hacktivist group Anonymous Sudan claimed responsibility for this cyberattack on its Telegram channel.

A pro-Russian group active since the invasion of Ukraine

Anonymous Sudan is a collective, linked to the main Russian hacktivist group Killnet, supported by the Russian regime. These militant hackers claim to be Ismalist and pro-Russian. It is difficult to really give them an origin since they communicate in English, Arabic and Russian.

This group is very active against France and began harassing French airport sites in March 2022 before turning to public service sites. Anonymous Sudan also uses powerful botnets – malicious networks of hacked computer devices – against many platforms, including Microsoft, to disrupt their systems, and boast about their attack on Telegram. The one against Deezer also allows them to get people talking about them.
