ROME (Reuters) – Several institutional and government websites in Italy have again been attacked by pro-Russian hackers, Italian law enforcement officials said on Friday.

At 08:00 GMT, the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and that of the National Association of Magistrates were still inaccessible.

The attack was launched at around 8:00 p.m. GMT on Thursday by the “Killnet” hacker group, Italian cybersecurity firm Yarix said.

A similar cyberattack took place on May 11.

Italian police announced on Sunday that they had foiled several hacking attempts by pro-Russian groups during the May 10 Eurovision semi-final and last Saturday’s final, won by the Ukrainian delegation.

According to Italian authorities, these cyberattacks were carried out by the “Killnet” group and an affiliated group “Legion”.

Since Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, many Western governments have raised their alert levels for possible cyberattacks on IT systems and infrastructure.
