Producers fear raclette cheese shortage

Since the start of containment, sales of devices and raclette cheese have jumped. What to fear a shortage?

Raclette is the dish that makes us feel good during the winter. Warm, friendly, full of melted cheese … It warms the heart (and the stomach). If, usually, we gather our friends around the raclette machine, this year, we do them rather remotely, via Zoom. A way like any other to keep your spirits up while having a good time! Only, here, it seems that the French have set their sights a little too much on this cheese since the start of confinement.

According to Europe 1, sales of cheese and raclette devices have tripled compared to the same period last year. "We sell about three times more than last year. Our producers tell us that they too have exploding order volumes. With a little concern, moderate for now, about their ability to meet the needs of everything the world", explains Damien Richardot, owner of a restaurant-cheese factory in Paris, to the radio. If the cheesemakers are worried, there is no need to panic at the moment. Fortunately!

If we tend to favor comfort food, including raclette, during confinement, it is not for nothing. "Raclette is quite rich, it will play on the circuits of emotions and calm them. At the same time, raclette is a little transgressive and regressive. It brings back good memories and it puts us back in situations where we were good. , and that we will not be able to live again this year ", explains to Europe 1 Catherine Vackrine, endocrinologist and specialist in eating behavior.

Raclette, that's really true!
