“Professionals have to pay for it”
Klopp lets out his anger over the game plan
For Jürgen Klopp, the greed of the associations is the reason why the football calendar is always full. The coach of Liverpool FC missed the breaks and would like to be guided by the planning in US professional sport.
Liverpool coach Jürgen Klopp has once again criticized the tight schedule in professional football. “It’s crazy what we’re doing there,” said the 54-year-old in an interview with Sky Sport. “We have neither a break nor proper preparation and no time to train during the season. You have to think about that, something is wrong,” said the 54-year-old Liverpool coach.
“In the long term, it can only lead in one direction – and that’s the wrong one. That is why it should be changed,” demanded the German starter coach and praised the players: “The fact that the boys still perform at such a high level is due to the boys.” The Premier League runner-up Liverpool will play at Watford on Saturday, and the Reds will continue in the Champions League at Atlético Madrid on Tuesday.
Klopp also criticized the Nations League in the interview: “We said at the time when the Nations League was introduced that it was a completely nonsensical competition. The reason for this was that there are too many meaningless games, there are so many friendlies. ” Now the competition is there, and there is no longer any possibility of taking out a game. “All associations have maneuvered in there,” said Klopp. “The player has to pay for it, that’s absolute madness.” And: “This greed is carried out on the back of the player.”
He was now comparing professional football with US sport. “A lot of money is spent in football, and even more in American sports. They have a break every four months plus a preparation. They also play boom, boom, boom, boom – but they have a break,” said the former coach of Borussia Dortmund . Klopp had recently heavily criticized the plans of the world association FIFA to host the World Cup every two years. “At some point someone has to understand that without the players, the main ingredient in this wonderful game, we can’t play,” he said.
