Start with turbulence – Airbus wants to take off

Airbus brings fewer aircraft to customers at the beginning of the year. The group simply cannot build enough because of missing parts. For sales, this means a scratch. Earnings and profits drop significantly. No reason for the aircraft manufacturer to change the annual targets.

Aircraft manufacturer Airbus has sold and earned less due to missing components and other problems in the supply chain. “We are still looking at an adverse business environment; the situation in the supply chain in particular remains tense,” said Group CEO Guillaume Faury. Nevertheless, the company is sticking to its goal of delivering around 720 commercial aircraft to customers this year, as the DAX group announced in Toulouse. From January to the end of March, 127 copies were handed over – after 142 a year ago

The operating result adjusted for special factors (adjusted EBIT) is also expected to increase to around six billion euros as planned. The development of the new A350F cargo jet, on the other hand, is taking longer: According to the new plans, the commissioning of the first example will be postponed from 2025 to 2026.

In the first quarter, the drop in aircraft deliveries was also reflected in Airbus’ financial figures. Compared to the previous year, sales fell by two percent to almost 11.8 billion euros. Adjusted EBIT fell by more than a third to 773 million euros – in commercial aircraft alone it was almost halved. A year earlier, however, a positive effect on pension obligations had boosted earnings. Because the exchange rate between the euro and the dollar has changed significantly in the meantime, the net profit even collapsed by almost two thirds to 466 million euros.

According to Airbus, it has orders for more than 7,200 aircraft in total. The group employed almost 138,000 people worldwide.
