Project Q, Sony’s portable option for streaming the PS5

Sony took advantage of its PlayStation Showcase broadcast this Wednesday evening to unveil some accessories for its console. And among them a device intended to play PS5 on the go, presented under the code name Project Q.

Project Q is presented as an 8-inch screen to which two halves of a PS5 controller have been grafted on either side. The idea being to be able to play your PlayStation library, but on the go. Except that we should not expect a Sony version of the Switch or the Steam Deck. No, it is only an accessory, which needs to be connected to a PS5, in Wi-Fi. And that the games are installed there beforehand.

Suffice to say that the interest suddenly becomes extremely less. No hardware inside, we are simply talking about a screen to stream your console located a little further. A tablet controller if you prefer. Add the fact that knowing Sony’s habits, you will most certainly have to pay a very substantial sum, in addition to that released to buy the PS5, and the hype is hard to find. The accessory will certainly have an audience, but an extremely niche one.

On the sidelines of Project Q, Sony also presented its PlayStation headphones, to bring its next-gen audio and total immersion, wirelessly. They will obviously be usable on PlayStation 5, but also PC. The two accessories are announced for the year 2023. And there will of course be other bursts of communications on this subject. With the one that will probably be the most anticipated, regarding the price.
