Prometheus on TF1: will there be a season 2?

The broadcast of the fantastic series “Prométhée”, led by Fantine Harduin, Camille Lou and Odile Vuillemin, ends this Thursday March 30 on TF1. But will a season 2 see the light of day? In any case, everything seems planned for…

After only three weeks of broadcasting, Prometheus ends this Thursday, March 30 on TF1 after a grand finale, which promises to answer most of the questions that viewers ask themselves.

And to finally clear up the mystery that surrounds the amnesic young heroine played by Fantine Harduin. Who is she ? Where is she from ? And where do his powers come from? You will know everything.

However, the plot of the series is not completely closed since the last minutes of this first season leave us on a cliffhanger which inevitably opens towards a possible season 2. With new questions at stake, in particular related to the future of two major characters in the series.

During the presentation of Prometheus to the press last September on the occasion of the La Rochelle TV Fiction Festival, producer Franck Calderon already hinted that the series had been designed to span several seasons. And not to be a mini-series, as is often the case on French television.

“The end of season 1 calls for a season 2, very clearly, otherwise viewers will face huge frustration (laughs)”he said during a press conference attended by AlloCiné.

Odile Vuillemin, who lends her features to the psychologist of Prometheus, confided to us recently that she hopes with all her heart that the series will be entitled to a sequel on TF1: “We really cross our fingers. I would love to find this character of Marie Clairmont”.

But then, what about it? Is a season 2 already in the pipeline? And will it see the light of day?

A season 2 in writing … but declining audiences

As screenwriter Solenn le Priol revealed to us a few days ago at Series Mania, season 2 of Prometheus is indeed in writing. But that does not mean that it will be validated by TF1.

The channel is waiting, as always, for the audience results of the three broadcast evenings to make a decision on the future of the fantastic series carried by Fantine Harduin, Camille Lou, Thomas Jouannet, Marie-Josée Croze and Odile Vuillemin.

The first two episodes of Prometheus, offered on March 16 on TF1, attracted an average of 3.54 million viewers, which represents 21.4% of women purchasing managers under 50 (FRDA-50).

Without sparking, TF1 ranked leader in audiences that evening, but lost 700,000 viewers between episode 1 and episode 2. And the fall continued in week 2 since, last Thursday , only 2.80 million followers were gathered, on average, in front of episodes 3 and 4.

TF1 was then overtaken by a rebroadcast of the TV movie Les enfants du secret on France 3. And the market share of Prometheus on the priority target of women responsible for purchases under 50 was only 15.3%. Which is well below the 20% threshold required by the channel.

In short, unless there is a big comeback this Thursday, March 30 during the last two episodes, the possibility of a season 2 seems somewhat compromised for Prometheus. Even if the series shows very good catch-up in replay, with 900,000 viewers won on D+7 for the first evening of broadcast.
