Prominent patron – world music festivals come to the Lungau

From Thursday, the international world of classical music will be guests once a week in the pilgrimage church of St. Leonhard above Tamsweg. Over the decades, the “Music Summer” has become a major event for music enthusiasts and top international musicians – this year for the first time under prominent patronage.

For more than 30 years, Horst Hofer has been bringing the great world of classical music to the Lungau. Summer after summer, the trumpeter organizes the music festival in the pilgrimage church of St. Leonhard. Over the decades, the reputation has grown significantly, and now Hofer and his wife Emma are drawing great musicians and members of the world’s most famous orchestras under their spell and the Leonhardsberg. Members of the Vienna Philharmonic or the Vienna Symphony Orchestra come while they are with their orchestras at the festival in Salzburg and Bregenz are guests. “For big performances, the orchestra and organizers determine the program, with us the musicians can play their heart’s program,” says Hofer.Vienna Boys’ Choir and Berlin HornistsTomorrow the Lungau Biosphere Wind Orchestra will open the dance with Thomas Rainer, principal trumpeter of the Graz Philharmonic. Exceptional interpretations from the Baroque to the 20th century follow every Thursday at weekly intervals. The Vienna Boys’ Choir let their program “Together” ring out in the acoustics of the pilgrimage church, the baroque ensemble of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra brings “string play and flute sound”. The conclusion is a special concert by the horn quartet of the Berlin Philharmonic, probably the best horn ensemble in the world – for the first time on a Saturday, August 27th. Also new is the patronage for the music summer. Albertina director Klaus Albrecht Schröder is the festival’s sponsor. The reason? His love of music, the pilgrimage church and the Lungau. And to his wife Nina – an exile from Lungau.
