ProtonDrive

It’s official ! After three years of development and a service available in early access, the encrypted Cloud signed Proton finally comes out of the clouds. An expected launch, but it will still take a little patience to see a synchronization function, the focus being made above all on data security.

The news was just announced via a blog post by Andy Yen, CEO of Proton.

Proton Drive finally made official

Proton is finally taking the leap by launching its own encrypted cloud service today. Entitled “Proton Drive”, the service comes to expand the offer already provided by the Swiss company behind the renowned Proton Mail, to which is added Proton Calendar and more recent services such as SimpleLogin, which allows you to send and receive emails from anonymous way.

Available to users who have subscribed to Proton’s services for some time now, the encrypted Cloud is launching into the deep end. A three-level formula has thus been unveiled. It starts with a free Encrypted Cloud offer, which provides access to a total of 1 GB of end-to-end encrypted storage space and the creation of secure links for sharing encrypted files. 200 GB of storage is offered with the Plus plan, 500 GB with the Unlimited plan. Let’s finish by specifying that like a Google Drive, the Proton Drive Cloud space is well shared with the storage necessary for Proton Mail.

The synchronization client always on the roadmap

The possibilities of synchronization are however absent from the formulas of Proton Drive, a client should however be launched, probably soon. It is necessary for the moment to be satisfied with the web application to manage folders and files. According to a previous blog post, an app for Windows, iOS and Android should be coming “ later in 2022 “. This is already the case for Android, but it remains in early access for the moment. A version for macOS is also on the program, it should arrive a little later.

Finally, new features should emerge over the weeks. Proton had notably mentioned the preview of images, PDFs and other videos directly from the various Drive applications, as well as encrypted searches, photo galleries and other collaboration possibilities. In the meantime, Proton Drive is taking another step by exiting its early access.
