All users can recover their secondary domain name for free until April 30.
This was one of the most insistent requests from users of the service, and ProtonMail is finally answering it.
An alias to retrieve for free before April 30
It is now possible for secure messaging users to reserve a secondary domain name in @proton.me. Their username will remain the same, and this new address will be added to the existing one at @protonmail.com.
The email service explains that many users indeed wanted a shorter address, especially to avoid problems with some sites that limit the number of characters in their forms, or simply to easily sort important mail from newsletters or advertisements.
All users can from today and until April 30 obtain the address @proton.me which is reserved for them. All they have to do is log into their account, go to the settings and click on the “Identity and addresses” button to activate it.
After that date, only paying users will be able to get it. Each user will still keep their @proton.me address reserved for as long as the account is active, in order to prevent other users from borrowing their username.
