Prototype of “Mada 9” – Taliban show Afghanistan’s first supercar

One would hardly associate Afghanistan or the Taliban with innovations – but the radical Islamic terrorist group recently presented its latest motorized achievement. It is a super sports car that is only available on the domestic market for the time being. However, it is questionable how many people in the war-torn country will be able to afford the speedster called “Mada 9” at all…

For five years, 30 engineers in Afghanistan have been working on the sports car, and now the prototype has been proudly presented on social media for the first time. It was developed by Entop and the Afghanistan Technical Vocational Institute based in Kabul. However, many technical details have not yet been revealed – it was only revealed that the vehicle has a converted engine from a Toyota Corolla. That would mean it was clearly inferior to other supercars, such as the current Ferrari 296 GTB. The Italian car has around 890 horsepower under the hood – the Japanese engine, however, achieves a maximum of 300 hp. Probably drivable even on bad roads Entop boss Mohammad Riza Ahmadi, however, assured that the engine was powerful enough for the vehicle. However, it is planned anyway that the Mada 9 will be equipped with an electric motor in the future. The design of the sports car suggests that it can also drive off the beaten track or on poorly maintained paths. Since Afghanistan is not known for its excellent transport infrastructure, this characteristic would probably be very useful. The sale will initially only take place in Afghanistan and later possibly in other countries – the company has not yet given any exact dates for this. The price was not published either. The company also remained silent about the production site and capacities. Development of the car began several years before the Taliban seized power. As reported by the media, it is to be presented at the Expo in Doha (Qatar) this year.
