VS’It was during a dinner in Blois, at the time of the Socialist Party’s summer universities in August 2022, that Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol sealed his fate. While the majority of the guests – composed mainly of mayors in their forties – pleaded to change the PS from the inside by supporting the outgoing first secretary Olivier Faure, the mayor of Rouen (Seine-Maritime) took the decision to table a motion and to go all the way by presenting himself as the leader of the party.

A few months later, in November, “Refoundation” was born, a collective defending a third way, neither pro-Nupes nor anti. A judicious positioning which allowed Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol to appear as the novelty and the surprise of the 80e PS congress.

With its 30.51% of the votes obtained in the vote of January 12…
