PS, Style, Range – Big but subtle update for BMW X5 and X6

When BMW announces successor models or facelifts, fans sometimes tense up lately, as the people of Munich are increasingly taking a polarizing path. But with the update for the X5 and X6, they have pleasingly held back in terms of design. But the progress in the drive is all the greater.

After the facelift of the X7 got a completely new front – based on the BMW 7 Series – one could have expected something similar a class lower. But far from it: the fronts of the brothers (the X6 is, so to speak, the coupé version of the X5) are still not irritating. Although the contours of the LED headlights are 3.5 centimeters narrower and the graphics are new, there can be no question of viewing slits á la X7. They also put their hands on the design in Munich, but to a manageable extent. The six-cylinder versions of the X5 get illuminated kidneys (“Iconic Glow”) as standard. There are also a few new color options, and the xLine design line is now standard on the X5 and the M sports package on the X6. An “M Sportpaket Pro” is optionally available for both.Curved display, but no waiver of the iDrive controllerIn the interior, BMW is switching to the “Curved Display”. As in the X7, it combines a 12.3-inch speedometer display and a 14.9-inch touchscreen under a glass surface. The number of buttons and switches is massively reduced, but the rotary-push controller – called the iDrive controller – is retained (unlike in the X1 and 2 Series Active Tourer). The menu buttons on the center console as well as the buttons for driving modes etc. can still be found. New powertrains for X5 and X6 New combustion engines are available for both models, one eight-cylinder and one straight-six petrol engine and one straight-six diesel, all as 48 -Volt mild hybrid supported by an electric motor that shoots 9 kW/12 hp and a torque of 200 Nm and is housed in the new eight-speed automatic. The 3.0-liter diesel now has steel instead of aluminum pistons, an optimized oil separation and a new common rail direct injection with solenoid valve injectors. It now provides 298 hp and 670 Nm and accelerates the mighty SUVs from zero to 100 km/h in 6.1 seconds. BMW specifies WLTP consumption as 8.2 to 7.1 l/100 km. The 3.0 liter diesel now has steel instead of aluminum pistons, optimized oil separation and a new common rail direct injection system with solenoid valve -Injectors. It now provides 298 hp and 670 Nm and accelerates the mighty SUVs from zero to 100 km/h in 6.1 seconds.New plug-in hybrid in the X5The X5 gets a new plug-in hybrid, which is now called xDrive50e . With 313 hp, its six-cylinder in-line engine now has 27 hp compared to its predecessor, the electric motor has a rated output of 145 kW/197 hp (up 62 kW/84 hp). System performance/torque increase to 360 kW/490 hp (with temporary boost) or 700 Nm (plus 100 Nm). In addition, a pre-ratio, which increases the torque effectively applied to the engine-side transmission input to up to 450 Nm, contributes to particularly spontaneous power delivery. The BMW X5 xDrive50e accelerates from a standstill to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds.Air suspension, all-wheel steering…Adaptive dampers are standard, some as adaptive M suspension. Air suspension and off-road package optional. Rear-axle steering is always on board with the top models, with the other variants optional. The rims measure up to 22 inches. Not only does the driver have more options, the car itself can also do more: the expansion of the assistance systems makes it possible, among other things, to walk alongside your vehicle over a distance of up to 200 meters. Market launch in April at prices from 93,800 euros (BMW X5) or 103,750 euros (BMW X6).
