PS4 left behind: New racing game shifts up three gears on PS5

Gran Turismo 7 not only benefits from better graphics on the PS5. Especially when it comes to loading times, the racing game really accelerates on the PS5 and really lets the aged PS4 eat dust. A new YouTube video shows how extreme the difference is.

Gran Turismo 7: The charging turbo is only available on the PS5

Gran Turismo fans had to wait for a new series part for almost ten years – but it was worth it. In our PS5 test, the racing game was convincing across the board and secured 9 out of 10 possible points.

PS4 players, on the other hand, have to put up with some limitations, mainly on one point: the loading times. This shows a direct comparison of the YouTubers ElAnalistaDeBits. This started the Nürburgring track on the PS4, PS4 Pro and PS5 and stopped the times that the three consoles needed to load the track. The result speaks volumes:

  • PS4: 41.9 seconds
  • PS4 Pro: 37.1 seconds
  • PS5: 1.5 seconds

The PS5 loads the track almost thirty times faster than the aging last-gen console. In other games too, the PS5 has always been able to shine with excellent loading times compared to the old Sony console, but the differences were almost never that immense.

Why does the PS5 charge so much faster than the PS4?

For the fast loading times on the PS5, the built-in NVMe SSD take care. This offers significantly faster transfer rates than the old HDD of the PS4 or the PS4 Pro. Anyone who has installed a SATA SSD in their last-gen console should also land on the starting line much faster – However, the loading times of the PS5 will not be able to be withstood in this way.

The result of loading times between PS4 Pro and PS5 varies from game to game. We found that out when we compared the systems ourselves. The results can be seen in the video:
