PS5: A new update arrives with the integration of Discord

Now that the PS5 begins to arrive in more and more homes, sony must implement important updates for its console in order to strengthen the experience of its users. It’s been a while since the integration of Discord within the PS5 ecosystem is announced, but it will have been necessary to wait until 2023 to see the first results with a new update for the machine, which is only offered in beta for the moment but which should be deployed to everyone in some time.

What does version 7.0.0 of the PS5 bring?

The biggest novelty of this update is of course the arrival of Discord and the ability to voice chat with your friends using the app. You will first need to link your PlayStation Network account to your Discord account by going to the console settings, then going to the services tab to select the Discord application, which will give you a QR code to flash with a simple code to enter. All information about the use of Discord on PS5 is provided on the official site of the application.

The other size addition, this is Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) support for 1440p resolution, provided you have a screen equipped with an HDMI 2.1 port. Among the other novelties, we find in bulk:

  • A new icon for Party chats: “Join Party”
  • A new tile: “Playing friends”
  • The ability to request a screenshot from a friend
  • Filters to better sort the library
  • Presets for the multiplayer sessions of your games to better filter who to invite to your sessions
  • Greater ease of transferring saves from a PS4 to a PS5, as well as data transfers
  • A now more complete screen reader
  • Manually sending screenshots to the PlayStation App

This update is therefore available today for users with access to the beta program, and should arrive at others within a few weeks. All the details can be found on the PlayStation Blog.
