PS5: A patent from Sony indicates that peripherals like the EyeToy or the PSP Go could become compatible

For now, sony does not really shine on the side of backward compatibility, whether in terms of hardware or games, even if in this last sector, the arrival of the new PlayStation Plus tries to compensate for certain weaknesses. But we have seen on several occasions that internally, the manufacturer was actively looking for greater backward compatibility, with new patents highlighting this aspect. We discover today another one thanks to Game Rant, which shows us that peripherals of the era PS3 (and even older objects) could come back to the fore.

PlayStation accessories back soon?

Do you remember the EyeToy? From the PSP Go? Or even the PlayStation Mouse? All these now forgotten peripherals are at the heart of a new patent related to the PS5. Sony would seek here to emulate the use of these objects on its latest console, as can be seen in the image associated with the patent, visible above.

For the moment, it’s impossible to know what Sony really has in mind by doing this, especially with objects like memory cards, which are very obsolete these days. But we can see that Sony thinks more and more about the emulation of older generations of consoles, the PS3 in mind, which should still give hope to some.
