This new version, internally designated under the code name Chassis D, will not necessarily be presented as a Slim version by Sony. And no, according to The Leak but also according to renowned journalist Tom Henderson, this redesign of the PS5 would be intended to permanently replace the first model of the PS5.
The source of The Leak also specifies that Sony would work to add a base on which to install the console while lying down. This change indicates that the hull could be modified or simply removed in favor of an entirely different design. However, the objective remains clear: reduce machine size and weight to reduce shipping and production costs.
The PS5 Slim could replace the 1st model from the end of 2023
Also according to The Leak, production of this model should begin in the second quarter of 2023, with a launch set for the end of the year. Remember that the Insider Gaming site was the first to mention the existence of a PS5 Slim.
