PS5: an update on sales of consoles and games as of December 31, 2022

It’s time to take stock for many companies and sony is no exception since it has just delivered its quarterly results for the period from October 1 to December 31, 2022, with all a bunch of numbers for the curious. Obviously, what interests us here are those of PlayStation 5, which we knew had exceeded 30 million copies sold since its launch, without further details. Well, the beast was at 32.1 million units sold at the end of last year! Yes, this represents 7.1 million consoles sold in three months, which means that demand is strong.

On the games side, the distinction is not made between PS4 and PS5, whose combined total sold during these three months is 86.5 million copies, compared to 62.5 million in the previous quarter. The Christmas period and the big outings including God of War Ragnarok must have helped a lot, especially since among the past titles, no less than 20.8 million were productions first party. However, these sales are down compared to the end of 2021. And for the curious, 62% of sales were in digital format, so the physical format continues to resist.

Side NHPthe firm counted 112 million active users this quarter, including 46.4 million subscribers to Playstation Plus. This is an increase compared to the previous three months, but still a decrease compared to the previous year. With the games offered at the start of 2023, interest could be boosted.

The console therefore has a bright future ahead of it, especially since stocks are going to increase. If you want to get a PS5, it is possible to get one via Amazon at the price of €549.99 upon invitation.
