While PS5 slowly, but surely more available, it could be that this generation does without a Pro version.

Yet already mentioned in 2019 by the filing of a domain name, the material and economic reality seems to have caught up with Sony, which would have reviewed its plans on this point.

A project with an uncertain future

If we are to believe the generally very well-informed insider Tom Henderson, known in particular for having often hit the bull’s eye with regard to Sony, the Japanese firm could break the tradition of previous generations by leaving aside a Pro version of the PS5 .

As a reminder, the PS4 Pro was released 3 years after the original model was marketed. Only here, the now current-gen console was released 2 years ago. And in this period of time, it has for many shone by its absence in stocks.

In a world where silicone and components are scarce, and while next-generation consoles are just beginning to see games worthy of them appear, it does indeed seem illogical that a Pro version should be released in 2023-2024. .

Review of priorities

Still according to Tom Henderson, Sony would rather consider optimizing production costs and avoiding multiplying the different versions of the PS5. However, a new model of the console would be well in the cards and could arrive this year. More specifically, its production could be launched in April, for global marketing in September.

It would therefore not be a PS5 Pro or even Slim, but simply a new iteration of the original model, the production of which should therefore cease when the new version is launched. We should expect a thinner model and equipped with a removable Blu-ray drive which was already the subject of rumors a few months ago. This “new generation” of the PS5 would, however, retain the aesthetics and large size that we have become accustomed to.

All this is however, for lack of announcement or official confirmation, to be taken with caution. Despite the recognized reliability of the insider’s information, nothing is yet set in stone or in the printed circuits of a “second generation” of PS5 which remains, at present, mainly hypothetical.
