PS5 Pro less powerful than expected? It’s a cold shower

It’s difficult to miss the PS5 Pro since every day, Sony’s next console is entitled to its share of rumors. This is still the case today.

In the constantly evolving world of game consoles, the PS5 Pro is the subject of exciting rumors, particularly regarding its artificial intelligence enhancement capabilities. We know that AI has been at the heart of technologies for some time now. It seems very difficult for game console manufacturers to do without it, given the possibilities it offers.

The PS5 Pro and the thorny question of AI

According to information leaked by a reputable leaker named Kepler, nothing seems very simple for the PS5 Pro. In fact, the expert clarified that this console will not use NVIDIA’s DLSS. The main reason is that the central part of the console, called the APU (a combination of processor and graphics card), does not have what are called NPUs, or neural processing units, which are necessary to operate technologies like DLSS.

Instead, according to Kepler, the PS5 Pro will use its own graphics card system to enhance images via AI. This improvement would be achieved thanks to a specific technique integrated into the GPU, known as WMMA. In other words, the console could improve images using its own advanced graphics functions, even without NPUs. But without going through DLSS.

However, even if this method of AI enhancement is theoretically possible, the expert expresses doubts about Sony’s ability to effectively develop and implement this technology without the help of AMD, which provides the AI technology. COULD. In summary, there is a possibility that the PlayStation 5 Pro could improve games through AI, but it remains unclear how and if this will be realized to its full potential.

This AI enhancement feature, while not officially confirmed, was hinted at in leaked documents from Insomniac Games regarding the Marvel’s Wolverine game. It is presented as one of the distinctive features of the PlayStation 5 Pro, allowing Sony to position it as a console capable of supporting 4K games at 120 FPS… Wait and see.
