PS5: sales collapse in Europe, those of Switch and Xbox soar

European console sales figures for 2022 have been revealed. And while Switch and Xbox sales are booming, PS5 sales are collapsing completely compared to last year.

This is news that is not likely to reassure Sony. According to a survey relayed by the media Gamesindustry, PS5 sales would be in real free fall in 2022. The investigation also highlighted the consoles of nintendo and of Microsoft. With the Switch, the Xbox Series X and the Xbox Series S which unlike the PS5, are doing really well in terms of sales in this year 2022.

The survey also indicates that the leading European market for video game sales is Germany, with nearly 15.4 million games sold in the first six months of the year (with sales up 13.6% compared to the same period in 2021). Next come the United Kingdom with 14.3 million sales (+2%), then France with 10.2 million (+12.1%).

PS5 sales plummet, unlike Switch and Xbox

sony therefore stick your tongue out with the European results on console sales in 2022. The year is of course still in progress, but the PS5, for example, is already acting as a very bad student. According Gamesindustrythe latest console from Sony already shows 44% less sales compared to last year. A fairly substantial drop, which can be explained in particular by the coronavirus crisis and by the important material shortages hitting the sector.

On the other side, nintendo and Microsoft show them a big smile since the Switch attach 7% higher sales to those of the previous year. And the sales of Xbox Series are doing even better with a nice increase of 9% still compared to last year. However, these indications are to be qualified, in particular because the figures should move once more when the shortages of materials are ancient history. In fact, it will then be possible to draw up a real picture of the figures for the gaming.
