Getting hold of a PlayStation 5 is still a difficult undertaking, even after a good 18 months. But Sony now promises improvement at an investor meeting and wants to increase the production volume significantly.
PS5: Sony wants to greatly increase availability
Sony is currently bringing its own investors up to date and showing presentations on all of the group’s business areas. Of course, the gaming area should not be missing and PlayStation boss Jim Ryan also spoke about the still poor availability of Sony’s new console. Because even after a year and a half, the PS5 is still hard to get from retailers and the prices for private sales are still extremely high.
According to Jim Ryan, that should be over soon. During his presentation, Ryan said: “Things are definitely improving.” Despite the corona-related lockdowns in China, this year “a significant increase in production” happen. Further expansion planned on PC
Sony expects to triple net sales in the PC market this year. During the presentation, Jim Ryan put the plans around you greater focus on the PC market before. While sales in 2021 were still a good 80 million US dollars, Sony expects to reach around 300 million US dollars this year. This year, only a good quarter of the games will be released for the PC and mobile platforms, with the rest spread across the PS4 and PS5. In 2025, however almost half of the games appear for the two platforms that have hardly been used so far.
Soon, fans of PlayStation games will not only be found on Sony’s consoles, and so the presentation ends with plans for a less console-centric future.
