PS5 UPDATE: Discord voice chat, variable refresh rate in 1440p and much more new in beta of the next firmware

The PlayStation 5 is regularly updated and Sony Interactive Entertainment offers beta testers the opportunity to try certain upcoming features in advance, as was the case last summer with 1440p for example. Rumor has it that the next firmware massive in preparation (the appellation 7.0 is not officially used for the moment) brings an increased integration of Discord and stream of PS5 games in clouds. Well, the PlayStation-Blog just announced what’s new for the beta program available today, but only voice chat on Discord is well quoted.

In addition to voice chat Discordwe find other social features, of VRR in 1440p or the possibility of transferring our data between PS5. You can find the complete list and all the details below.

As the PlayStation 5 console continues to evolve, we’re excited to bring new features to our community. Today we are rolling out the new PS5 system software beta. It includes many fan-requested features, like voice chat on Discord and variable refresh rate support for 1440p resolution. It also introduces various interface and accessibility improvements, as well as social features that will make it even easier to play with friends and enhance your gaming experiences on the PS5 console.

Invited users who participate in the beta and are residents of the United States, Canada, Japan, United Kingdom, Germany, or France will receive an email with instructions to download and launch the beta. As with previous beta releases, some features present may not ultimately make it into the next final release of system software, or may be significantly changed before its worldwide rollout in the coming months.

Let’s review some of the new features:

New social features

Linking Discord and PlayStation Network accounts from the PS5 console is only required for beta participants and during the testing phase.

** Video clips under 3 minutes that are not in 4K can be downloaded from the PS App.
