Kehrer has a new club, Draxler remains on hold

The big club Paris Saint-Germain wants to get rid of two German national soccer players, but one has now done it: defender Thilo Kehrer is now playing for the Premier League club West Ham United. Colleague Julian Draxler is threatened with banishment to the second team for the time being.

National soccer player Thilo Kehrer is leaving Paris Saint-Germain and moving to Premier League club West Ham United. Both clubs announced this. The versatile defensive player signed a four-year contract with the Hammers until June 30, 2026. According to the media, the French champions and the Londoners are said to have agreed on a fee of up to 16 million euros.

“This is the best league in the world and I’m looking forward to playing in the Premier League,” said the 25-year-old Kehrer in a statement from the English top flight club. “My biggest goal now is to get into the team, integrate into the group and have fun playing for West Ham.” West Ham botched the start of the season with two defeats and are second to bottom in the table.

Kehrer no longer played a role under the new PSG coach Christophe Galtier, just like national team colleague Julian Draxler. Both were recently not appointed to the star squad. According to the newspaper “L’Équipe”, the club made it clear to them and other sorts that they would be used in the second team if they hadn’t found a new club by the end of the transfer in two weeks. While the situation with Kehrer, who played for PSG in 27 of 38 games in Ligue 1 last season, has been clarified, DFB colleague Julian Draxler still has to find a new club – or at PSG set consequences.

The change was also important for Kehrer in view of the World Cup in Qatar and his place in the national team. Other clubs such as FC Sevilla and Atlético Madrid are said to have shown interest in Kehrer. Born in Tübingen, he moved from FC Schalke 04 to Paris in 2018 for around 37 million euros. His contract in Paris would have expired next summer. Kehrer played a total of 128 games (4 goals) for PSG and won the league three times, the French Cup twice, the League Cup and the Champions Trophy once each.
