PSG: the French largely opposed to the plane for short journeys

Lhe polemic of the “sand yachting”, concerning a trip from Paris Saint-Germain to Nantes by private jet, has far from gone unnoticed. On the contrary, according to an Odoxa poll for Winamax and RTL, 76% of French people and 90% of football fans have heard of this controversy. If a majority of them believe that Christophe Galtier was wrong about the form of his remarks, the opinions are more divided concerning the substance of his thought. 54% of those polled believe that he was wrong and 59% of football fans believe, on the contrary, that the Parisian coach was right.

Football enthusiasts or not, the French agree however to judge that efforts must be made for the planet. In total, 81% of respondents say they are in favor of banning air travel for athletes and professional clubs, insofar as there is an alternative route, by bus or train, of less than three hours. The survey conducted by Odoxa was carried out on a sample of 1,005 people, representative of the French population. More than half of them, 549, consider themselves to be football fans.

Three years earlier, in June 2019, Odoxa asked the same question in a survey. Those polled were already 70% in favor of banning certain internal air routes, provided that an alternative route is feasible in the same or less time. Mentalities have since evolved, in the direction of ecology. The French people interviewed say they want professional athletes and clubs to be concerned by measures in favor of the planet.
