PSVR 2: Sony is working on improving its reprojection system

The producer of Hubris (read our review) said that sony is working on improvements to be made to the reprojection system of the PSVR 2. Is the native 90/120 Hz argument that gamers have so acclaimed in recent months about to be obsolete? That’s all we can wish for!

As a reminder, a reprojection system makes it possible to display more images than the machine can create (for a demanding game) natively. The artificially generated images are based on the previous ones and on the movements of the player, this results in problems with duplication of images which do not allow you to move freely without feeling nauseated and which cause blurring when moving, forcing the player to adopt notch locomotion to limit damage. Reprojection is among others used on games like Horizon Call of the Mountain, Resident Evil: Village Or on Gran Turismo 7.

In a previous article, we discussed the benefits of native 90 Hz (or native 120 Hz for RedMatter 2). Fuzzy movements, because duplicated, scared off most players, and this possibility of obtaining a list of games without reprojection has led many people to turn to safe bets, making non-reprojection a purchasing argument.

It was during a question-and-answer session on Reddit that Hubris producer Koen Van Den Steen spilled the beans. The latter has also advanced something quite impressive:

Whether or not he is aware of this technique, the player will not even suspect the use of reprojection when playing our game.

This is all players have wanted from the start, that like foveal rendering, it doesn’t show in-game. When cheating is visible, it no longer manages to amaze and fatally disappoints. Nevertheless, the producer of Hubris tempers by admitting that in the event of active research, the player could on certain elements feel the reprojection. At any rate, we will try again the problematic titles in a few months and we will then give you our verdict.

THE PlayStation VR 2 is already available, and you can expand your toy library via gift cards playstation available on Amazon.co.uk.
