PSVR 2: Sony’s VR headset would win against high-end PC gamers

PSVR Master Race ? To believe one of Pavlov’s developersand in the course of a conversation on Discordthis one noticed that his high-end PC had reason to blush in the face of the latest sony.

What is Pavlov ?

Let’s put ourselves in context, Pavlov is an FPS released in 2017 and is still considered the equivalent VR by counter strike. Also available on PC VR only autonomously (via concessions), it will be worn on the PSVR 2 for launch availability.

A PSVR 2 that buries an RTX 3090 Ti ?

icing on the shotgun, one of the developers of the title (David Vallarreal) was pleasantly surprised to find that his experience was much better on the helmet of sony only on its own PC gear VR top of the line. And the bugger has a setup quite nice sincehe used to run Pavlov with his RTX 3090 Ti (equivalent to an RTX 4080). And yet he asserts thatwith the PSVR 2his game would be 10% faster.

PSVR Master Race ?

10% certainly seems low, but contextualized to the fact that the RTX 3090 Ti costs more than 2,000 eurosand related to the fact that THE PSVR 2 costs only 599 €, it makes a big difference and the effect of a real bomb in the war between comforting And pcists.

Glorious PC Master Race

Eh yes, it is customary to recognize that PC gamers have always been a technological step ahead of console gamers. It therefore seems, as a former footballer said so well, that “the routine will quickly turn”. By the way, remember thatapproaching the PSVR 2 and the announcement of its technical specificities, many PC gamers had expressed the wish to know if the helmet of sony would be compatible with computers, proof if there is that the helmet impresses as much as it makes envious.

Truth be told, it impresses as much as it frustrates. In effect, why the PC gamer should buy a console he doesn’t care about, potentially buy back these games, all to play in “possible” better conditions? And conversely, if this same player has an RTX 3060, why would he put more than 2,000 euros to change or improve his configuration when he can have better by paying at least 1,050 € (PS5 Digital Edition + PSVR 2) ? We do not even mention those who remain austere in the world of the PC and a fortiori in the world of the “hack” who have been stigmatized for so long and who will finally be able to take their revenge by shouting from the rooftops “PSVR Master Race”.

Foveal optimization and rendering

How is it possible ? How the PSVR 2 can it display such neat graphics while its GPUs brings it closer to RTX-2070 ? Well, all this is due to two things: optimization (developers only work on one hardware) and foveal rendering. For those who don’t know, THE PSVR 2 features eye tracking (eye tracking), which allows, with the foveal rendering, to put only in very high definition the images that we look at, by strongly degrading the rest. And since you can’t see what you don’t see (you follow?), you won’t be able to realize this subterfuge.

PC VR RIP ?

So no, the PC VR still has a bright future ahead of it, PC gamers being able to modder their games much more easily. For example, if a game looks good on PSVR 2it may be more so on PC, if a mod is made to improve it. Second, you will never see the mods of Half Life 2 (or others) go out on PSVR 2. So yes, there will always be an interest in keeping a high-end PC to at least take advantage of these experiences, but not that that would be to forget the insane and unbeatable catalog of blinds such as Steam, Viveport or that ofOculus.

As a reminder, THE PlayStation VR 2 will be available from February 22, 2023, with several titles to discover from the launch. You can find cards NHP on Amazon.
