PSVR 2: the headset already abandoned by Sony?

On paper, the PlayStation VR 2 is a great headset for the PS5, packed with a bunch of immersive features. But its price is enough to put off many players, it costs more than the console and the games PSVR of the PS4 are not even backwards compatible… Which wouldn’t be a problem if Sony focused on developing new titles. But this is not the case.

Android Central reveals, citing anonymous sources, that Sony would have reduced its budget to produce video games for the PSVR 2. According to his information, only two titles VR would be developing among PlayStation Studioswhich means that players will have to rely on productions from third-party studios to be entertained in virtual reality. Android Central also mentions the leak ofInsomniac Gameswhich does not mention any title VRwho had already developed four games for the Oculus Rift.

Another point that hurts, the absence of hybrid games, playable both on a TV and in virtual reality. If the players were able to have fun with Resident Evil 4 Remake of Capcom on their PlayStation VR 2on the production side of Sonythe last hybrid title dates from… Gran Turismo 7. Astro Bot Rescue Mission had attracted PS4 players and PSVRbut the next part, ASTRO BOT, recently revealed, is only expected on PS5without compatibility with the PSVR 2.

As a reminder, an adapter will be launched soon, allowing you to use the PlayStation VR 2 on PCbut you will have to deprive yourself of the interesting features of the headset, such as the HDRvibrations, eye movement tracking, adaptive triggers and haptic feedback… Enough to transform the PSVR 2 in ordinary headphones, suffice to say that PC gamers will instead turn to a competing model or a standalone headset like the Meta Quest 3available at €549.99 on Amazon. Helmet VR of Meta also has a much richer catalog, with tempting exclusives like Batman: Arkham Shadow And Hitman 3 VR: Reloaded future.

Should we already bury the PlayStation VR 2 ? Possibly, it seems obvious that Sony increasingly abandons his virtual reality headsetto the great dismay of players who paid €1,150 for a PS5 and a PSVR 2hoping to enjoy a bunch of games in VR.
