From seductive charm to underground pick-up lines – in the dating world we are confronted with very different attempts at flirting. You can find out here which flirting technique almost always promises success.

In the age of online dating, it’s not that easy to leave a lasting impression on someone. Because dating apps focus almost exclusively on superficial features. If something doesn’t seem to fit – too small, too big, funny eyes, no hair – the next date is just a swipe away. It is not so much the appearance that makes us feel attraction to another person.

Dating: The chemistry has to be right

In other words, if the first impression is right, a meeting is essential. And while many a:r then lets his:r charm play and wraps the other person around his finger in no time and has convinced himself of himself, an inexperienced flirt partner:in quickly slips a less promising pick-up line and the date is over Finished faster than he:she can count to ten. But don’t worry, singles can breathe a sigh of relief, because researchers have identified a simple flirting technique that almost always works.

This flirting technique turns you into a dating pro

In cooperation with Brucknell University in New York, scientists from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) examined dating and flirting behavior. As part of the study, around 1000 students from both regions were asked about 40 different flirting techniques, which were then evaluated with regard to the guarantee of success for a long or short relationship.

First and foremost, flirting is about sending signals that attract a potential partner, explains Leif Edward Ottesen Kennair, professor of psychology. “Both men and women flirt to get a person’s attention and, ideally, a romantic or even sexual encounter.” What surprisingly doesn’t play a big role in the first attempts to get close are age, religion, origin – and according to the expert, appearance is actually secondary.

Affair, relationship, one-night stand – what are you looking for?

That makes a big difference when flirting: Are you looking for a long-term or short-term relationship. For example, the study found that people who are more likely to have a one-night stand or a brief romance need to signal that they are sexually available. This works best with deep gazes and lots of physical contact.

If you want the relationship to last longer, less is more. Eye contact can still be important for the first contact. After that, however, you should avoid overly aggressive approaches and focus on getting to know each other and future dates. Also important: Ask your counterpart questions and thus signal your interest.

The miracle weapon of humour

Humor is the key to success – with an almost 100 percent guarantee – no matter what you are looking for. According to the study, the ability to make other people laugh is one of the most attractive. In particular, men who are looking for a long-term relationship can only score with sophisticated humor. But even for short flirts, giggling and laughing at his:her jokes falls into the category of effective flirting techniques. And since you’re only up for a short fling, the joke doesn’t even have to be a good one…
