The pandemic weighed heavily on many people and cost a lot. But can something positive be recorded in the corona balance sheet? Apparently, as a representative survey suggests.

Many people primarily associate the corona crisis with victims. Illness, death, existential fear, loss, limitation, stress, division, isolation. The virus has had a negative or even devastating impact on various areas of life and society.

But if we were asked to put on rose-colored glasses that only let us see the positive things of the past year and a half, changes that were initiated during this time and that we did not want to reverse, even if we could – what would we do to attract attention?

To find out, the data and survey company Dynata surveyed a good 11,000 people in eleven different countries, 1,000 of them in Germany. Here are the five most frequently mentioned positive trends that the representative selected respondents were able to identify in their lives in the course of the corona crisis.

Survey: Five positive changes that the corona crisis triggered

1. Pay more attention to your health

The acute threat posed by the rampant virus has apparently made many people aware that health is not a matter of course, but an important and valuable asset. 82 percent of the Germans surveyed said that they had been paying more attention to their health since the pandemic and that they wanted to keep it that way. 78 percent of the study participants expressly refer to this also to their mental health.

2. Go outside more

During the corona pandemic in Germany, walks were the highlights of many people’s everyday lives. And apparently not a few noticed how good it is for them to be outside: 79 percent of the people surveyed by Dynata enjoy the increased proportion of their life outdoors and would like to be outdoors a lot and regularly in the future.

3. Family first

The crisis has shown most people what really means something to them in life – and for many it is the family. 71 percent of the Germans surveyed said they wanted to invest more time and energy in relationships with their closest and loved ones.

4. Courage to change and reorient

Apparently, the pandemic has made many people think about their careers and given them the courage or at least the desire to reorient themselves. Some were compelled by the crisis, others stimulated. 23 percent of those surveyed are now planning to take a completely new direction on their career path.

5. Home office

No annoying commute to work, no distraction in the open-plan office, relaxing breaks in your own home. After their experiences from the pandemic, 51 percent of the Germans surveyed would no longer want to do without the freedom to work from home.
