There’s nothing like a good night’s sleep! And that’s exactly why, according to surveys, we shouldn’t leave “the good side of the bed” to our partner too lightly …

Left or right? Closer to the door or the window? With or without a wall next to you? Finding the right sleeping position is not that easy. It becomes doubly complicated when you then have to come to an agreement with a partner – who in the worst case has the same preferences as you.

But doesn’t it ultimately matter which side we are on, as long as the right one sleeps next to us (and has brushed his teeth before getting into bed)? Apparently not! In any case, both Feng Shui experts and various studies suggest that there is a better and a worse side. Oh dear …

Left sleepers are happier

So among other things has one much quoted survey of 3,000 adults on behalf of the hotel chain “Premier Inn“reveal that People who sleep on the left side of the bed, get out of bed better in the morning and are more rested. In addition, more than a quarter of the left-sleepers who took part in the survey said they had a positive outlook on life and felt less stressed and unhappy, while just under a fifth of the right-sleepers said they did. Coincidence? Maybe. But another poll from Great Britain, with 1,000 participants, came to the same conclusion in 2015: Left sleepers are on average more balanced than right sleepers.

That’s what Feng Shui says

Feng Shui experts, too, are generally not at all of the opinion that it doesn’t matter which side of the bed we sleep on. However, their recommendation is often more nuanced than the survey results. For example, the Viennese Riccarda Larcher advises on hers Websiteto sleep with the man on the left, the woman on the right. Because the right half of the man’s body is his yang side and this should be as close as possible to the woman’s yin. This is the best way to complement each other when you sleep. Interesting! The only question is what homosexual couples should do with it

But no matter what surveys and Feng Shui say, in the end other criteria are definitely more relevant for our sleep quality than the question of which side of the bed we are on. Anyone who goes to bed with a guilty conscience or 24 unfinished to-dos will not sleep particularly well, either left or right. In addition, habit certainly plays a major role. Anyone who has been sleeping on the right side for years and can cope with it will initially feel more uncomfortable on the left than on the right. But when in doubt, there is nothing against taking turns or at least trying out the other perspective. And if not in bed, then at least in other areas of life
