Similar to “Stranger Things,” viewers can expect a journey back in time to the 80s in the new Netflix series “Eric.” But instead of nostalgic references to cult films like “The Goonies” or “ET – The Extra-Terrestrial,” the psychological thriller is pretty dark.
“Marvel” star Benedict Cumberbatch plays the family man Vincent Anderson, who lives as a puppeteer in the vibrant city of New York. Just like the Netflix hit “Stranger Things”, it is about a mysterious missing person case when his 9-year-old son Edgar disappears without a trace one day on the way to school.

In the psychological thriller “Eric,” the mysterious case is investigated by investigators like Detective Ledroit, who bring more and more clues to light. Meanwhile, Vincent is struggling with his inner demons and addiction problems.
He even comes up with the seemingly crazy idea of bringing his giant doll Eric back to life in order to bring his son back home. In doing so, however, he becomes more and more alienated from his fellow human beings and his wife Cassie.
After Benedict Cumberbatch recently starred in the Netflix film “The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar” by director Wes Anderson, which even won Best Short Film at the 2024 Oscars, the Hollywood star also shines in “Eric” and gives the role the necessary authenticity.
